Following a decision to visit Bath during their UK vacation, John Howard decided to do a search to find things for the family to do during their stay. After the inevitable things such as sightseeing, visiting museums etc John remembered that during a visit many years ago he had tried bowls and enjoyed it and decided it would be fun for the family to do. John then googled various clubs in the area and Alexandra were the first to respond. That coupled with the fact that they could offer tuition from two qualified coaches, they set about organising times and dates for the event. Some weeks later the family duly turned up to be greeted by Felicity and Danny who welcomed them, gave them a potted history of the game of bowls and the part Alexandra had played in it over the last century or so. They then went out onto the green to be given the rudiments of how to bowl and finished up with a short game where John sat to one side to enjoy a cold beer whilst John’s wife and daughter-in-law took on his son and granddaughter. Much hilarity and cheering then ensued and a fun afternoon was had by all.

In ”The Colonies” we have what is called Southern Hospitality.
But there is no greater hospitality in southern England than
that of the Alexandra Park Somerset Bowls Club shown to
our Texas family.
Your explaining English Bowls and taking the family on its
first such outing, guiding and instructing them in the art and
skill of a wonderful sport. It was a highlight of our three week
visit in England and never to be forgotten.
